What You’ll Do

Epic Games is searching for a Character Art Director to join the team working on Fortnite. In this role, you will collaborate directly with the concept, product, and art teams to create and iterate on purposeful characters that look fantastic. This role is perfect for someone with a combination of strong creative and visual aesthetics, excellent design skills, leadership experience, and a proven record of crafting compelling characters.

In This Role, You Will

Collaborate with the Concept Team, Art Directors, and Discipline leads to create compelling characters.
Help Epic push the visual envelope by designing stunning and inspiring characters.
Interpret the needs of various development disciplines like design and engineering to create outstanding final artwork.
Mentor Lead and Senior Artists to ensure continuous artistic growth within the team.
Collaborate with the Product and IP teams on themes and cosmetic sets to enrich the gaming experience.
Create and iterate unique, visually stunning designs on a tight production schedule.
Provide feedback across all art disciplines, including modeling and animation.
Partner with the Modeling and TechAnim teams to ensure that concept designs work within project workflows.

What We’re Looking For

Proven experience as an art director in a game studio.
Deep understanding of the game development process and various art disciplines.
Strong grasp of art fundamentals, multiple art styles, anatomy, and appeal.
Experience designing a wide variety of characters with broad appeal.
Understanding of modern fashion-forward aesthetics to keep designs current and relevant.
Expertise in color theory and how it impacts mood and focal points.
Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills to guide teams effectively.
Experience directing and supporting artists across multiple disciplines.
Ability to adapt to and innovate new styles and techniques.
Strong leadership skills to align a large team with a singular creative vision.
Experience in providing effective feedback for outsourcing and contractors.
