  • Salary Range: Entry rate is approx. $30.06/hr; $33.40/hr (after 24 months)

As a track maintenance laborer, you will be expected to follow all company and federal safety regulations, including wearing required safety equipment and responding appropriately in emergencies. Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Track Maintenance Repair and Installation:
  • Repair and rebuild railroad track using power and non-power hand tools
  • Lift/carry track material, cut vegetation, and clear right-of-way
  • Perform maintenance tasks such as pulling spikes, drilling holes, and fitting bolts
  • Maintain Trackbed:
  • Cut rail, compress ballast, and remove/install ties
  • Lift, roll, and adjust rails with assistance
  • Operate Equipment:
  • Operate non-powered hand tools (shovels, picks, etc.) and powered tools (drills, impact wrenches, etc.)

Working Conditions:

  • Extreme weather conditions
  • Work on uneven surfaces and around heavy/moving machinery
  • Exposure to loud noise and fumes

Shifts/Hours:

  • Full-time (40 hrs/wk)
  • May include on-call, overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays

Travel:

  • Travel and stay on job sites within the designated seniority region for extended periods

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age by the anticipated start date
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license
  • Ability to report to designated work location
  • Able to work in the specified conditions and shifts
  • Able to lift and carry up to 60 lbs occasionally
  • Capable of distinguishing colors and different sounds
  • Ability to use hand tools and follow safety procedures
  • Available to travel and remain on job sites for extended periods

Training and Union Information:

  • Company-paid on-the-job training
  • Membership in the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees union (dues required)

Probationary Period:

  • 60 days
